Natural Stone

Natural stone is a product of the Earth that results from geological changes and mineral compositions that have been occurring for millions of years. These materials are quarried from the Earth’s surface and used for a variety of projects, such as sculptures, countertops, fireplaces, flooring and more.

Onyx

Onyx is a type of cryptocrystalline quartz that is formed in the same way as marble, through metamorphism of limestone or dolomite. However, onyx has distinct characteristics and properties compared to marble. Onyx is known for its striking appearance, with bands or layers of different colors. It is commonly found in shades of black, brown, white, and green, but can also occur in other colors such as red, yellow, and blue. These vibrant colors are due to the presence of impurities and mineral deposits in the stone. The physical properties of onyx include a similar density and hardness to marble. It has a density ranging from 2.5 to 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter and a hardness of around 3 on the Mohs scale. Onyx is also translucent or semi-translucent, allowing light to pass through and creating a unique visual effect. Chemically, onyx is composed of silica and has a similar reaction to acids as marble. It has low solubility in water and requires proper care to prevent damage or staining.

Travertine

Travertine is a sedimentary rock formed from sand and gravel deposits and organic materials with microscopic cavities that grow into floral patterns and is cream in color and created in natural hot springs. Construction workers typically use grout to fill these crevices and make the rock more robust. Hollow travertine, often known as "empty" travertine, comes in a variety of calming earth tones and can be used for everything from flooring to fireplace mantels to garden paths.

The properties of travertine: The density of this stone ranges from 2.3 to 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter and due to its porous structure, it absorbs water. Travertine is composed of various compounds such as silica (SiO2), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and iron (Fe2O3). It is resistant to acids and chemicals. The color of travertine is usually brown, red, yellow, or cream. It is resistant to acids and chemicals.

Granite

Granite is one of the strongest natural stones available, offering durability and an elegant look. It comes in various colors, including gray, black, and pink. Granite has been used for centuries in various applications, especially in architecture and home design. Its unique beauty and durability make it a popular choice for countertops, flooring, facades, and more. It is one of the oldest, toughest, most popular, and most durable construction materials. No matter the weather condition or how much foot traffic your floor expects, granite will always perform well and last for years. Due to its hard-wearing properties, there are countless uses of granite, and it can be used in a variety of application areas. Besides being so strong, versatile and resistant to different conditions, granite is also popular for its aesthetically pleasing looks. This is the reason why many homeowners prefer this natural stone to be installed in various application areas.

Marble

Marble is formed from calcium carbonate and is highly regarded for its physical and chemical properties, such as high resistance to scratching, heat, impact, and corrosion, as well as its resistance to moisture and weather effects. It also has a beautiful and pleasing appearance and is resistant to stains and coloring.

Marble forms naturally over time as a result of pressure and temperature changes in the Earth’s layers. Initially, calcium carbonate exists as sediments in oceans or lakes. Over time and under high pressures, these calcium carbonate sediments transform into marble.

Due to its unique beauty and patterns, marble is used in the construction and interior decoration industries. It can be used to create various surfaces, cabinets, tables, stairs, flooring, walls, and other interior and exterior parts of buildings. Additionally, it is used as a construction material in industrial and commercial projects. Marble is also used in interior decoration and luxury space design due to its special design and beauty.

Sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock consisting of sheets of sand, mineral particles, and binding matrix deposited one atop in water environments and desert formations. Very porous and water will penetrate it easily. Brown, red, purple, and pink sandstones are commonly called brownstone.

Tramite

Limestone And Tramite is a sedimentary rock composed principally of calcium carbonate (calcite) or the double carbonate of calcium and magnesium (dolomite). It is commonly composed of tiny fossils, shell fragments and other fossilized debris.

Limestone is usually gray, but it may also be white, yellow or brown. It is a soft rock and is easily scratched. It will effervesce readily in any common acid.

The density of limestone depends on its porosity, which varies from 0.1% for the densest limestone to 40% for chalk. The density correspondingly ranges from 1.5 to 2.7 g/cm3. Although relatively soft, with a Mohs hardness of 2 to 4, dense limestone can have a crushing strength of up to 180 MPa.

In terms of water absorption, measured absorption typically ranges from less than a percent for granites and crystalline rocks up to 10-12 percent for the more porous sedimentary rocks (like sandstones and limestones). For sandstones and limestones, an absorption of less than 5 percent is preferable, and in most cases, the lower the better.
